Trip Planning

The Macari Winery is now open to visitors by appointment only, so pick a day to venture either by car, train, or Hampton Jitney! It’s just under 2 hours from the city.

For a fun trip with a group of friends, arrange for a private group bus to safely take you there and back! There are so many different options and price ranges you can explore, from a coach bus, sprinter van, or a full-on party bus.

It’s not only a great activity for couples or a girls weekend. It’s also perfect for bachelorette parties in the North Fork or in the Hamptons. That’s how we stumbled upon it! We spent last Saturday celebrating my best friend’s bachelorette with a private tasting at Macari, and it was such a great afternoon. It is easy to get to too, just under 40 minutes from the town of Southampton, or a quick ride from Greenport or Shelter Island.

The Private Tasting Room

With ten people in our group, we felt the best choice would be the private Macari Tasting suite. Upon walking into the room and being handed a glass of sparkling wine to toast, we knew that the service and experience would be wonderful! And we couldn’t wait to try the 5 carefully selected wines for the tasting.

But the gourmet lunch was so delicious, I kept forgetting to put my fork down and enjoy the wine too! There was an unbelievable charcuterie board prepared for us, a flavorful farro salad, fresh focaccia bread, and a picnic basket full of a variety of sandwiches! Not to mention another basket full of baked goods.

The wine tasting itself was just as impressive - provided you are happy to conduct it on your own! The 5 pre-poured wines are served on a paper placemat and guide each drinker through the tasting with the name and description.

Though it’s hard to choose a favorite amongst the delicious sampling, we all seemed to really enjoy the Dos Aguas red blend! So good that we had to grab an extra bottle for the bride to take home!

I loved that you could relax, have a conversation, and try at your own pace. This was such a nice way to experience a vine-side wine tasting.

The tasting is $150/person, and can be reserved in advance for groups up to 12 people. I highly recommend this experience!

The Private Tents

Book your own private tent for groups of up to 6 people here. They are called the Bergen Road Bungalows and were uniquely developed to be winterized tents for dining outdoors at the vineyard. Not only can you enjoy the space inside the tent, including food and the tasting, but all decorations inside are shoppable!

I thought the tents were cute from afar, but they are gorgeous inside too!

Now with the warmer Spring sunshine upon us, there are also Adirondack chairs outside each tent. So no matter the weather you can either enjoy the warmth and coziness inside, or a nice breeze on the grass overlooking the vines.

The experience is $185/person and is available from 1-4 pm daily.

This is one of many amazing vineyards on the North Fork of Long Island. But in sampling a number of local wineries Out East, I believe Macari offers a gourmet wine and dine experience in their private tasting suite that is simply above the rest!
