Restaurant Spotlight: Union Square Cafe
I’ve decided that a perfect Friday night in New York City is a walk around the neighborhood followed by a nice dinner at Union Square Cafe!
It’s only been a few weeks since Union Square Cafe reopened and it’s the same amazing dining experience that you can always rely on from chef Danny Meyer and the Union Square Hospitality Group! The service is top notch, the food is absolutely delicious, the prices are definitely reasonable for the quality, and the overall ambiance and decor is beautiful.
This is why the tables at USC are always packed. And as much as I want to fit in, I more so enjoy looking around to see if I recognize the other diners around me. It’s a popular restaurant and perfect for people watching without being one of those dimly lit, overpriced, super sceney spots.
Union Square Cafe is just a New York classic.
The Food
I love the menu at Union Square Cafe. There are reliable appetizer options, indulgent pasta dishes, and complex entrees that will blow your socks off.
Here is what we ordered during our most recent dinner!
Calamari Fritti
Served with chili aioli and lemon!
The Off-Menu Burger
I also love what’s not on the menu, like the phenomenal burger. It’s not listed but if you mention it to the waiter it’s regarded as “available for those who know about it” and it is something you want to know!
I believe that when bar seating was open, the burger was only available on the bar menu. If you plan on ordering be sure to save room because it’s stacked high and served with lots of rosemary shoestring fries.
The Cavateli
With Broccoli Rabe, Sun-dried Tomato, Pine Nuts and Pecorino Romano
Reverse Chocolate Cookie
Time for dessert! There are multiple options that stood out to us, but I had to go for the delicious chocolate cookies with white chocolate chunks! Served warm and honestly worth the $7 even if you only take a few bites.
Just take a look at the beautiful two-story dining room. If your preference is to be right in the action, you’ll be spoiled by sitting on the first floor with plenty of natural light flooding in through the windows and a great spot for people-watching. Or if you prefer your privacy then you’ll be thrilled with the more dimly lit and moody second-floor dining room. Both are wonderful.
From food to the setting, it’s a five-star dining experience. I hope from sharing this review that it’s clear to see why Union Square Cafe is more than just a restaurant, but a landmark in New York.
